As we ramble our way along quiet country lanes and secondary roads — with the accompanying van hauling most of our gear to our campsites — we’ll traverse grassland ridges, coast along broad valleys, and slip through roads that are closed to all vehicular traffic. We’ll ride in the tracks of pioneer ranchers – including the famous “Black Cowboy” John Ware, the hunting and foraging grounds of the first peoples of these lands, and explore hidden valleys only accessible by the most intrepid explorers. With very little vehicle traffic, we’ll visit local food and drink producers, enjoy the local hospitality in the villages of Turner Valley and Black Diamond, and work our way up the Sheep River Valley — just you, your bicycle, and some of the most majestic countryside in Southern Alberta.

Day 1
Calgary to Millarville 55kms. Our adventure begins at BikeBike located in the historic neighbourhood of Inglewood. Be sure to make a little time to stroll 9th Avenue and check out all the lovely boutiques in Calgary’s oldest community before we depart. We’ll have an orientation meeting where you’ll meet your Guides and we’ll install your GPS unit which gives you turn-by-turn directions for the duration of the trip. We’ll then leisurely ride out of Calgary using segments of the city’s longest-in-North America pathways system, winding our way south towards the beautiful Foothills region that will be our playground for the next few days. Eventually we’ll emerge from the confines of Calgary’s city limits and enjoy a rolling ride along mostly secondary roads to our destination at the Millarville Agricultural Society Grounds where we will camp for 2 nights.

Day 2
Foothills Loops and Excursions – 40-60-kms After a delicious breakfast prepared by our Guides we’ll pedal off into the Foothills along quiet rolling roads to Spirit Hills Winery where we’ll enjoy a tour and tasting. With a couple of self-guided route options available after our tasting we will program your GPS with a short route you up to the historic Leighton Art Gallery, or on a longer loop taking you into the quaint towns of Black Diamond and Turner Valley. At the end of the day we’ll return to the Millarville campground for a scrumptious supper.

Day 3
Millarville to Blue Rock 71kms. After a hearty breakfast we begin our last day by riding the rolling range roads of the Millarville area, heading west towards the looming front range of the Rocky Mountains. We leave the ranchlands and begin to climb up into dense mixed forest – eventually arriving at a very special part of the route: Gorge Creek Road. What makes this section special is what it doesn’t have: Cars and trucks. This little stretch of Shrangri-La is the highlight of the entire trip – though you have to work for it as there is a significant amount of climbing today. The road ends with a hair-raising descent down the gorge, dropping us onto the Sheep River Highway where we encounter one more big pavement climb before arriving at the Blue Rock Campground, our home for the evening. The next morning we’ll pack up after breakfast and shuttle you and your gear back to BikeBike, arriving in Calgary around noon and the end of the adventure.

After you've registered we will send you a required gear list in a separate email.
