HOW DO I JOIN A WILD ROSE ADVENTURE (WRA) EXPERIENCE?
Have a look at the different products available on the "Tours" page and register there.
ARE YOU REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THE WHOLE TRIP, STRAIGHT AWAY?
Yes, we require full payment ahead of time. If the trip is cancelled, we will refund your purchase in full.
CAN I JOIN A WRA TRIP ON A NORMAL ROAD BIKE?
The only trip we'd recommend for traditional road bikes is our Bikepacking For Beginners clinics. All the rest of our trips are more off-pavement than on-pavement, with many segments being much too rugged for a lightweight road bike. Our recommendation is to use a gravel-specific road bike or lightweight hardtail or rigid mountain bikes.
DO YOU HAVE BIKES TO RENT OR DO I NEED MY OWN?
For 2020 - our first season - we will not have rental bikes though it is in our plans for 2021. You will need your own bicycle that is in excellent working condition. We'd recommend a modern "gravel bike" or "bikepacking" bicycle that has minimum 40mm tires.
ARE ALL TOUR DATES GUARANTEED TO GO AHEAD?
Unfortunately not. Tours are only guaranteed to go ahead once we have received enough bookings to meet our minimum group size. Guaranteed tours will say Guaranteed next to the departure date in the booking section on the tour page and as soon as we guarantee a tour, we will inform all tourers currently booked on.
WHY DO YOU HAVE A MINIMUM GROUP SIZE?
Firstly, we want to keep our tour prices as low as possible, so we spread the large fixed costs involved over the entire group. We therefore need a minimum number of bookings to cover some of these costs before we can run a tour. Secondly, we design our tours to offer a great social experience to riders, and want to avoid people turning up to find out they are one of only two or three people on a tour – we believe it is more enjoyable when a group of 6-8 tourers are riding/socialising together.
WHAT IF A TOUR DOESN’T REACH MINIMUM GROUP SIZE?
As per our booking conditions, we will make a final decision weather to cancel or guarantee a tour a minimum of four weeks before the departure date. In most cases we will cancel/postpone a tour earlier than six weeks before if we know bookings are low.
IS THE CYCLING HARD?
The nature of the places we ride means that WRA routes are designed to be challenging, but accessible. Challenging given the terrain (it’s not all flat, by any means) but accessible in the short-ish distances we ride each day. You won’t get left behind and we’re big fans of riding to an overall daily average of around 15KPH.
DO I NEED TO WEAR A HELMET?
Our insurance requires that you wear your helmet at all times when you are on your bike.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
Barring "force majeure" and dangerous conditions, Clinics and Tours will always go ahead. WRA guides will make informed calls on a day-to-day basis and tweak the route if necessary. We always recommend carrying rain gear during the day as the mountain weather can change in a moment from sun, to rain, to hail, to snow, and back again to sun - all within one hour. Remember, you're naturally waterproof!
I’M KEEN TO JOIN A TRIP, BUT I DON’T HAVE ANY BIKEPACKING KIT, OR A SUITABLE BIKE!
Our Clinics and Tours are designed for both experienced bikepackers, as well as folk who have never tried it before. The minimum you need is some clothes to ride in, outerwear, shoes and an ounce of wanderlust. We can have an adventure bike, all the bags and camp kit you need ready for you to hire if you don’t have your own.
DO YOU CARRY EVERYTHING FOR US?
Not everything but most of it. We'll transport your camping gear forward, all you need to carry is what you'll need for the day. Riding light means to get to enjoy the best parts of touring and leave some of the suffering behind. We'll provide you with a recommended list of gear to have during the day and what camp gear to bring.
WHAT IS THE ACCOMMODATION LIKE?
We like to call our style of camping "Rustic Comfy". We utilize Alberta campgrounds and PLUZ's (Public Land Use Zones) which are primitive in nature but we bring along creature comforts that only van support can offer.
IS ALL FOOD & DRINK INCLUDED?
All meals, beverages, and snacks are included - in fact, we cook for you! Inclusions do vary from experience to experience, so please see notes for each individual trip. We are focused on offering an ‘all-included’ experience as much as possible.
CAN YOU CATER FOR ALL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS? VEGETARIAN? VEGAN? GLUTEN FREE?
Yes. Please let us know as soon as possible, upon booking, so we can work on meal plans.
WHAT IS THE TYPICAL GROUP SIZE?
Anywhere between 6 and 8, plus two WRA guides/driver. Keeping the groups small means we don’t spread ourselves too thin, you’ll get chance to chat to everyone and of course our impact on nature is reduced.
Yes, we’d love to take you and your friends/colleagues out into the wild. Please email us with ideas or for more details.
